Chromatic Guitar Tuner Tuning Down 2 Whole Tones?
Hi, i just brought the Boss TU-2 Chromatic Tuner and want to tune my guitar down two whole tones for playing metal. In the manual it says to do this you need to tune the 4th string down to A and then a little sign and the 3rd string down to D and then the same sign again. What does this sign mean and how do i do this? Thanks in advance.
Answer:
The symbol you are speaking must be either a sharp (#) or a flat (b). A sharp raises a note 1/2 step and a flat lowers a note 1/2 step. Your tuner should have something on it to indicate a sharp or flat note. The note for your 4th string is A# (which is the same as Bb) and your note for the 3rd string is D# (which is the same as Eb). **A# is a higher note than A and D# is a higher note than D.
So your tuning down a whole step would equal: low E to C, A to F, D to Bb (or A#), G to Eb (or D#), B to G, and E to C
The tuner reads a Chromatic Scale = C, C#, D, D#, E, F, F#, G, G#, A, A#, B (there is no E# because E# is the same note as F and there is no B# because B# is the same note as C)
