Learn the basics of piano - the super easy wasy
Have you ever wanted to learn how to play a musical instrument? Yes? That's great! Then how about you give the piano a try? Don't worry. It may look difficult, but really, it is. I'm kidding! Learning how to play the piano is not difficult, but it's not easy either. In fact, learning a musical instrument is a slow process that requires time, effort and a lot of patience.
But don't let that discourage you. Just think of the beautiful music you'll be able to produce and the applause and praise you'll get from your family, friends, and loved ones. Now then, before we start pressing those piano keys, let us first familiarize ourselves with the basic of all basics. What is a piano? A piano is a musical instrument with a manual keyboard. The keyboard of the piano is unlike your computer keyboard. First of all, it is composed of white and black individual piano keys.
These keys are arranged horizontally and each corresponds to a note in the twelve notes of the Western musical scale. You may have noticed that the piano has two different colored keys. Yes, there is a difference between them. The white keys or white notes are the seven major notes from the C major scale. That is, C, D, E, F, G, A, and B. The lowest note, C, is at the left most of the keyboard and the highest note, B, is at the right end of the keyboard. The black keys or black notes that are smaller and are placed at a higher level than the white keys are the remaining five notes which are not part of the C major scale.
These notes are the sharps and flats as in C sharp or D flat, D sharp or E flat, F sharp or G flat, G sharp or A flat, and finally A sharp or B flat. If there are only twelve keys, then why does it seem like there are more keys in the piano? That's because the pattern of these keys are repeated at an interval of an octave.
The number of keys in a piano is not the same and depends on the type of piano and the number of interval octaves. For example, a modern piano can have as much as 97 keys because it has more than 5 octaves, whereas, a small MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) controller can have as low as 25 keys. Aside from the keyboard, the piano also has other parts that greatly contribute in the sound that it produces. The pedal, located at the bottom or base of the piano, is a lever that alters the sound the piano produces in various ways. It can help sustain or change the pitch of the sound.
Now that you know the basic parts of the piano that you, the musician, will be directly involved with, it's time to get those hands working! First, familiarize yourself with the keys, get to know the sound it produces and when you feel you are ready, start by playing easy songs and gradually take on more difficult songs as you go. Always remember, practice and when you get a chance, get yourself a proper experienced teacher so that you will be guided in your learning process. Good luck!

Frequently Asked Questions...
Can i use the Boss 3 super octave pedal to play just one or two steps, or does it have to be set an octave at?
a time? i want to play drop c with my tremolo guitar it's a pain to switch back and fourth, would this octave pedal be a good idea?
Answer:
no the octave pedals wont be useful for this, try the Digitech Whammy or Boss PS-5 or other pitch shifter pedals for this but a suggestions is to get another guitar it will sound even better, becos it sound a bit weird with the pitch shifter effects.
