What is an electric Teisco Chess Del Rey guitar made in the 1960's worth?
I have what i believe to be a Teisco/ Chess Del Rey electric guitar made in Japan in the 1960's. It's a sun burst pattern with a black floral guard on it. It's in good working condition. I'm trying to sell it and I am not sure how to price it. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
What is it worth and how should I price it?
Answer:
I remember those. I had one...or maybe it was a friend...but I remember that they were okay guitars, but nothing special. I was going to say that it's probably not worth much until I looked up on wikipedia. It seems that in some circles they are becoming collectable. Quote: "While guitars manufactured by Teisco were ubiquitous in their day, they are now very collectable. In fact, highly sought after models are now being reproduced."
eBay is usually a good indicator of what people will pay, and they aren't bringing high bids there. Does yours look like this? http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-Japan-1960-s-Teisco-Del-Rey-Guitar-Near-Mint_W0QQitemZ170405542297QQcmdZViewItemQQptZGuitar?hash=item27acf63999 It's got a current bid of $145 and only 8 hrs to go on the auction. I suggest you follow the auction and see what the final selling price is. Bids often increase in the final few minutes, but it doesn't look to me that this is a particularly valuable guitar.
