Frequently Asked Questions...
What would this be worth?
I was given a 61+ year old handmade Korean jewelry box with mother of pearl inlay. It's in-scripted "Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year 1950" inside the lid. It was a gift given to a family member of mine who fought the Korean from a fellow Korean pilot. So, it could be older than 61 years. It is painted black and red, and has a lot of mother of pearl inlay on it. What could this be worth? It's a gorgeous piece with a dragon on the top, and lotus flowers on the side. It's missing a few pieces of the pearl but not much to notice.
Answer:
The size, how much mother of pearl inlay and obviously age would determine the worth I've seen a 5"x4.5" box go for up to $180.00. But that's one that was manufactured recently. Being that the box is an authentic hand made piece from during the Korean War era. It's hard to say. Personally, I'd pay $300.00 to $400.00. But then I love nostalgic pieces like that.
