Tips For Picking Pickup Bed Covers
Soft pickup bed covers certainly cost much less than some other types of tonneaus. However hard tonneaus offer certain advantages that make them worth a closer look. Several questions make the search a bit more of a challenge. It may be that looks, security, price or even the way you plan to use the cover makes the choice a bit of a struggle. There is also overlap between soft and hard covers on some of the features you may expect...
Selecting a single tonneau cover for your pickup is hard partly because there are just so many to pick from. Narrowing down the choices to just a few can be done quite quickly if price is an option. Let's face it, the most costly covers offer lots of features and benefits but at a steep entry fee. On the other hand, some of the least costly tonneaus can be had for just a little and will add value to a truck maybe beyond what you pay. It partly just depends on what you need and what you want and what is the price you choose to deal with.
Certainly a remote control retractable tonneau cover is a luxury item. But when you think about it, it differs little from a remote access trunk lid. It turns a truck bed to a big trunk that's easy to get in and out of even if your hands are mostly full and even in the worst of weather. What's more, the metal cover retractable models turn pickup boxes to big trunks in effect and make for a more useful weathertight area to put whatever you haul in under cover and under lock. It's a good situation if the price is not a show stopper.
Retracting tonneau covers often get the nod as the really premium choice for a bed cover. That's due partly to the cost but there are other reasons as well. A retractable cover is really at the core a sliding metal, aluminum, sheet that moves forward and back as needed to close or open the bed to access. When not in use, the cover slides into it's own storage can out of the way and out of sight as well. As secure as the hard covers that tilt or the tri-fold covers, the roll forward covers also permit easy access to the entire bed for using it any way you choose. Unlike tilt forward covers, the retractable bed covers put no limit on the height of the load carried either. Any cargo that fits the bed, fits the cover too.
Pickup bed covers need not really cost that much. Soft tonneau covers add a measure of security from weather as well as from prying eyes. On the other hand, for much higher protection levels the retractable metal covers fill the bill and turn pickup beds into lockable vaults that function much like a giant locking trunk with remote access if you choose. Then between the extremes of the least expensive soft covers and the most expensive retractable metal covers are several other options.
You can purchase pickup bed covers for trucks online at a discount if you will consider other sources than a local dealer. Getting the right tonneau means looking at the limitations of each type and model and considering how much you want to spend too. It is easy to get a cover that does much without spending a lot of money. Soft tonneau covers offer great value as do some of the hard truck bed covers as well.
