Frequently Asked Questions...

Capos for electric acoustic guitar- very basic question?

My partner has an electric acoustic guitar (I don't know the make), but I know nothing about guitars. She wants a capo for it and I have found some online. There are three different types described as "snaplock", trigger" and "adjustable". I'm sure this is a very basic question, but they are all the same price so I don't know which sort would be the best. Its for a birthday present so I can't ask!!

Can anyone help?

Answer:

Hi,
I assume that you speak of what is called a semi-acoustic.
Actually I use the same capo's on both acoustic and the full electic jobs. Difference being the neck "fretboard" width, which is much narrower on an electric. Confused ? So am I sometimes !
However, I have a snaplock one, which has a sort of adjustable strap & buckle arrangement for the acoustics, and a trigger job for the electric.
Another factor is what key you are adjusting to. The things need to be adjustable in some way, as the higher up the board you go, the wider it gets.

To play safe I would get an adjustable, from any good local music shop. They are about £8-12 and work a treat.

A versatile must-have. We lost the bands' banjo player somewhere before a gig, so bunged a capo in the B fret, and strummed furiously on just the top four strings.
Hey Ho, a banjo sound !

A goodly choice of present for your partner.
Cheers,
Bob.
