Frequently Asked Questions...
What do I do with my accoustic guitar?
The strings have rusted rather badly, is there any lubricant that I can apply to it or must I get new strings?
Answer:
When you strings rust they have to be replaced. Actually you would generally do it before they rust.

Water Lubricated Bearings
The Different Bearings Available
Bearings come in many different shapes, sizes and materials. Why are there so many different variations? Different bearings are used in different situations; for example machines that require the usage of high temperatures use a certain bearing, or a machine needing to carrying heavy loads a specific bearing is used, and so on. It is important to choose the correct bearing for the application at hand because the whole machine runs off the bearings, choose the wrong bearing and the machine will not function properly and will most likely fail which costs money to repair and time lost while it is being fixed, time is money as they say.
Why use Water Lubricated Bearings?
A water lubricated bearing consists of a cylindrical shell and liner, made from hard plastics from a casting process and rubber. The most common usage for water lubricated bearings is by the Navy in ships, boats and submarines. Water lubricated bearings are most commonly made out of rubber and hard plastics. Rubber and water make the perfect relationship for a bearing. The natural resilience of rubber gives the bearing its shock, vibration and noise absorption properties. Of course the standard steel and carbon material for a bearing cannot be used for applications in water due to rusting unless they are covered n a sealant but still a rubber material in water is the better option. Rubber bearings go hand in hand with rubber propeller shaft bearings and are used widely in varying sizes of work boats, fishing boats, leisure ships, and all marine related vessels.
How do Water Lubricated Bearings work?
Water lubricated bearings as the name suggests uses the water as the lubrication. They have a synthetic rubber liner with internal grooves often called flutes which increase the performance of the bearing in the water as the lubricant. What happens? Usually the rotation of the shaft creates a layer of water between the shaft and bearing, which is how it becomes a lubricant for the bearing. If you think of a standard bearing the lubricant is placed so no friction is present between the bearing and the other material, this is the same theory but the water is used instead. The flow of water reduces the wear on the shaft due to the low friction and keeps the bearing cool so it doesn’t over heat. Very clever isn’t it?
