Everyone has there own ideas about the best time to fish when fishing for crappie. Ive got a good friend who works construction and works pretty much from first light to dark during the summer months.
Thats probably the reason he loves to go fishing for crappie when he can get out on the ice. It's the only time he gets to drop a line. He's a pro at dragging huts and augers on the lake. Ice fishing isn't my thing though... every time I go on the ice, I hear popping noises and visualize huge cracks opening up and dropping me in for an icy dip.
Well enough witht he stories my point is crappie are pretty hardy fish. The great thing about the crappie you can catch them at several different times during the day, and in all the seasons of the year. And believe it or not in just about in any weather conditions. You've just got to know how. Here's a list of quick crappie fishing tips that will help you when your fishing for crappie.
Crappie Fishing Tips #1: Night time is always the right time to catch crappie... expect crappie to bite from dusk until midnight.... during most times of the year.
Tip#2: An even better time to be fishing for crappie in some parts of the country is 6-8am in the morning. It works like crazy in the Northeast.
Tip#3: If you are fishing for crappie in moving water then you will want to to switch between live bait and artificial bait, depending on how active the fish are. Remember crappies are cold-blooded and the water controls their body temperature. Find good hiding places where crappie my be preparing to ambush lazy bait fish... and put it right in from of there nose.
If crappie are sluggish , it is because they are uncomfortable.Think of it this way if it was 90 degrees outside and you did not have any airconditioning you would be uncomfortable too. When crappie are uncomfortable they just don't feel like doing anything unless its put right at their noses.
Crappie Fishing Tips #4: For some strange reason only know to the fish, a really good time to be fishing for crappie is during a rainstorm. You don't want to be out there when it is thundering and lightning, but if it's just raining , it's a great time to be fishing for crappie.
Tip#5: If your fishing in a lake, stay close to shore and don't be afraid to move your bait around. some guys like to just cast and wait, but this can be a bad strategy. When you fishing for crappie you will catch more fish if you go to them instead of waiting for them to come to you. If they are not biting in one place try pie casting in another.
